Nigger IRE 1735

The year reads 2020 and among the Swedish mare families the Irish stud book number 1735 is next in turn. You cannot help but wonder... Can you really today write about a pony with that name... Should you leave her out? Should you refer to her as the "N-mare"...? One thing is clear, today few would probably choose to call a pony Nigger, but in the early 1950ies a young mare was registered in the stud book under this very name.

Nigger was the mother of nine foals. The first, Sougahatchee, was exported to the USA but left no lasting impressions there. Daughter number two, Easter Clues, however, left a significantly larger legacy in her new homeland, Sweden. Easter Blues came to Sweden already in the early 1960ies and must have been one of the very first Connemaras on Swedish soil. Back in Ireland she left her daughter Blue Chip, born in 1964 who followed her dam to Sweden the following year.

Both Easter Blues and Blue Chip became brood mares with the Weckner siblings. All Blue Chip's foals were by the Weckners' stallion Roundstone Chief. Her oldest daughter Lightning Bug was the dam of Charel, who in turn gave birth to Shansi. Shansi was a brilliant example of how the Connemara just keeps improving over the years. After having been awarded a bronze as a five-year-old she matured and after years as a successful show jumper she was ten years later given a silver and in her twenties she was repeatedly gold awarded. She was reserve Supreme Champion at the breed show during two consecutive years and at the age of 27, at her last breed show appearance she was awarded yet a gold medal. One of Shansi's sons, Shadow, was a reliable show jumper during many years and another, Smokey, was a successful dressage pony. Smokey qualified to the young pony championships in dressage and was third at the 2005 Connemara dressage championships. Shansi's full sister Glissett had her own successful career as a show jumper during the 80ies and 90ies.

None of Lightning Bug's three daughters were entered into the studbook. Her youngest daughter, Surprise II, did, however, have three progeny. The sons became successful performance ponies. Rasmus, by an unknown sire, specialised in dressage, while Inver Pride took competition points in both show jumping and dressage. The daughter Tindhra is silver awarded at the breed show and was gold awarded and Best of Breed at a local pony show in 2007. Tindhras son Nixon has won competition points in dressage.

Blue Chip's foal from 1968 was the stallion Blue Chief. As a five-year-old he won his class at the breed show with a silver and the year after he was gold awarded and took the Supreme Championship. He was also Supreme champion at the local show at his home stud Hagen and was gold awarded at the national pony society's show in 1982. Blue Chief has also been awarded gold in progeny class at the breed show. There are officially 120 offspring of Blue Chief of which most carry the Hagen prefix, and almost all are pure bred. In 1983 Blue Chief was awarded the Swedish Connemara society's stallion award. Five of his daughters are diploma mares and five of his sons are approved stallions. Three of his daughters have won the Swedish Connemara society's brood mare award and four of his progeny have an ELITE premium. In the show ring there are progeny with gold awards, both at local shows and at the national breed show. Four of them have been Supreme Champions at local shows and two at the national breed show. Four of the offspring of Blue Chief have won quality tests and his progeny have taken competition points in eventing as well as in show jumping and dressage. In dressage are several ponies who have been among the top ten dressage Connemaras or even dressage ponies in Sweden. These have competed in Swedish, Nordic and European championships and won medals both individually and in a team. Among Blue Chief's full siblings we must mention Blue Boy, silver awarded at the breed show and a successful show jumper in the 80ies and 90ies.

The year after Blue Chip, Easy Over was born. Her first foal was the approved stallion Blaze Dara. Blaze Dara never dominated in the show ring, but in 1980 he at least secured a second place and a silver at the breed show. Among his official 27 progeny Liljegårdens Franciska was gold awarded at a local show and she has also been reserve Supreme Champion at a local show. Cirrus is a class winner at the breed show. Many of Blaze Daras offspring have been reliable show jumpers or allround ponies for many years and in 1994 Dallas was Sweden's third best eventing Connemara.

Easy Over's daughter from 1976, Kim II, carried on the legacy through her daughter Misty Star. Misty Star was twice gold awarded at local shows and in 2010 she was reserve Supreme Champion. Prior to that she had been a successful show jumper for many years. With the performance career behind her she had a few years as a brood mare, resulting in the diploma mare Midsummer Iris.

Several of Easter Blue's progeny were successful performance ponies. Mac Brown, Brimstone and Invit have all taken competition points in show jumping and Brimstone, who was later exported to Finland, was among the top ten Swedish show jumping Connemaras and top 100 show jumping ponies during the late 80ies. Mac Chief has take competition points in dressage and Gringo and Zavoy (originally registered as Jolly Jumper) has taken points in both show jumping and dressage. Invit is gold awarded class winner at a local show and has also won at the breed show.

Bonnie Blues was Easter Blue's daughter from 1978. After a modest start to her show ring career as a two-year-old, the points soon increased and she had multiple gold awards and class victories both at local shows and at the breed show. At local shows she was reserve Supreme Champion on three occasions and Supreme Champion in 1982 when she was given 42 (out of a total 50) points. As a three-year-old she was a diploma mare.

Bonnie Blues is the ancestor of a number of interesting ponies. Both her daughter betty Blues and her grand daughter Busy Bianca are diploma mares. Billie Blues was gold awarded both at local and breed shows and Busy Bailiff won his class at the breed show as a two-year-ld. Golden Grape is a class I mare. Both Winnieman and Golden Griffith have taken competition points in show jumping. Kläringe Easyblues have competed both in dressage and eventing and Winston was ranked ninth among the eventing Connemaras in 2001. Billy Blues has won dressage points as has Busy Bailiff, who during the 00ies was a reliable dressage pony. In 2006 he was among the top ten dressage Connemaras and in 2009 he was second in the Connemara dressage championships for overheight ponies and riders over 18 years of age.

Easter Blue's full sister from 1962, Cahir Grey, was exported to the Netherlands where she had two foals, but neither of them left any important traces. The third full sister, Easter Troy from 1963, has made a greater impact in France. Easter Troy is the dam of the approved stallions King-Cup R.C., sire of the stallion Thunder du Blin, who participated in the European show jumping championships, and Queenly de Ravary, sire of many successful show jumpers. Of Easter Troy's French daughters, four have also been brood mares - Fiesta de Ravary, Ines de Ravary, My Fair Lady Ravary and Paprika Ravary. Among Fiesta's progeny we should mention the dressage pony Sonibla de Boutou, but her branch of the family seems not to have been continued. Only one of Ines de Ravary's four progeny, Moon de Keriero, has been used for breeding, but almost completely for breeding partbreds.

From Myfair Lady Ravary we find additional ponies with performance success. Leeroy de l'Aubier, Jalousie Lou Paradis, Gordon Green, Moonstone Coolfin, Thunderbolt Coolfin, Crack Boom Coolfin, Schtroumpf Chayottes, Tresor des Chayottes and Unic Pearl have all done well in show jumping. Coyote de l'Aubier and Olaf de l'Aubier have both shown their talents in the dressage arena and Loony Cross Mountain has been successful in both dressage and show jumping. Approved stallion Emir de l'Aubier have high indices for both eventing and show jumping and many successful show jumping progeny. Myfair Lady Ravary's grand daughter Palika de l'Aubier was exported to Germany where her daughter Birdmountain Pippilotta was champion foal at the 2010 German show.

Paprika de Ravary's branch of the family is not as extensive as that of Myfair Lady Ravary, but a few of her progeny deserve mentioning. Gwiou ar Park and Lancelot ar Park both have high show jumping indices as has Avel Heol ar Park. The latter also has a high eventing index.

Nigger's daughter from 1966, Palomino Little Rose, and her granddaughter Belle Aurore were both exported to France as well. From Palomino Little Rose descends a long line of ponies with high show jumping indices, for example her sons Tambay Fire Ball (who also has a high dressage index) and Ulysse Fire Ball. Her daughter Koala II is also the dam of progeny with strong show jumping indices: the partbreds Victor du Segalas (also with high eventing and dressage indices), Bulitt du Segalas och Doudouil du Dycal (also with high eventing index), Eparine du Dycal and Falomino du Dycal and among the progeny of Eparine du Dycal the parbreds Rym de Lamony, Tebello de Lamoni, Vagalam de Lamoni, Boecie de la Monie and Dolmie de la Monie all have high show jumping indices and where Tebello, Vagalam and Boecie all seem to have qualified for young pony finals in show jumping. Malomino is the dam of the show jumping ponies Enzo du Segalas, Fun du Segalas and the partbred Opale de Lobit and the eventing pony Daphne du Segalas. She is also the grand mother of the partbred Fany du Segalas, Edison du Segalas and the partbred Onaro, all of whom have high show jumping indices and where Onaro has qualified for young pony final. Four of the progeny of Orianne, finally, have high show jumping indices: Harlem du Bibal and the partbreds Kananga du Bibal, Orianne du Bibal and Quenotte du Bibal where Harlem and Kananga also have high eventing indices.

Nigger's last daughter so be entered in the Irish stud book was born in 1969 and was named Easter Nigger after her dam. As a two-year-old she was exported to Sweden. She was never entered in the Swedish stud book, but had two daughters, Mascara who was imported in uterus and Tralee. Tralee competed in show jumping and had no progeny of her own. Mascara had two gelding sons. The younger of these Masefield Dara was a successful dressage pony during the 80ies and 90ies. In his most successful year, 1994, he was the sixth best dressage Connemara in Sweden. Masefield Dara also brings Nigger's mare family to a close. Being by Blaze Dara out of Mascara he is a descendant from Nigger both on his sire's and his dam's side.
