A tribute to Juno Rory

October 2nd 2010: Almost to the day a year after I hear that Janus had been put down news reached me that his half brother Juno Rory (by Rory Ruadh our of Brantshammar Julie) is now gone too, and I feel he is no less deserving of a tribute page.

During the whole 90-ies Juno Rory dominated the pony dressage scene in Sweden. With a succession of riders he competed year after year at the top national level. In 1993, 1995 and 1999 he was the most successful dressage pony in Sweden. In 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001 he was the most successful dressage Connemara in Sweden, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998 he was second and in 1988 and 1990 he was third meaning that he was among the top three dressage Connemaras in Sweden for a decade and most of these years he was among the top ten all breeds. I don't think this has been achieved by any pony before or since.

Among Juno Rory's achievements at the Swedish dressage championships are three golds, three silvers and a bronze. He won a Swedish dressage championship medal every year from 1991 to 1996 and again in 1998. Add to this four team silvers and two golds at indoor championships. 1993, 1994 and 1995 he also won the Swedish Pony Dressage Derby. Juno Rory also had three team silvers and an individual bronze from the Nordic dressage championships. Due to his height (139 cm) he never participated in the European championships.

Juno Rory had less opportunity to cover mares in his competing heydays, so most of his offspring were sired in the past ten years. Of his offspring Ginger, Golden Garlic, Mennuette II, Myrrha and an unnamed filly from 2010 have all been gold awarded at the breed show. Lidens Ametist and the partbred Miljon have been given awards at the three-year-old tests. Arda's Beamish, Lidens Belline Rose, Sjödalens Magnolia and the partbred Fix Julie are all diploma mares. Fix Julie has proved an exellent mother of performance ponies with her offspring continuously doing well in the young pony events. The approved stallion Golden Garlic, Molliere and Royal Fighter have all qualified to the young pony championships in dressage for five-year-olds. Brolötens Noblesse, Dancing Shadow, Golden Garlic, Myrrha and Royal Dancer have all been among the top ten dressage Connemaras in Sweden and there are several others already competing successfully, mainly in dressage but also in show jumping.
